A Totally Normal World

Once upon a time - and twice on Sundays.

As one from The Big City, I have neither a car nor driver's license (my learner's permit just expired). I am sure there are other people going to this event in the same boat, or train, or bus as it were. The question is, which train, or boat, or bus shall we take to get to TNE?

The closest train station is the Morristown Line on NJ Transit, Morris Plains stop.

From there, you would need someone who could pick you up or be prepared to pay some fairly hefty cab fees.

$25?

It's about five miles from the train.

Yeah, Totally Normal is in the middle of nowhere. It's really the type of hotel destination designed for the rental car/car owner crowd. It's meant to be remote.

OK, who's up for a carpool?

I can do pickups from the train station (since it's relatively close by), Friday evening or Saturday morning. Assuming I can escape from my commitments to help decorate...or have figured out how to transcend time.

What time are you going to get the bus?

That bus sounds like a good idea. I will see if I can find a schedule and a map that will help plan the trip. What time are you getting to the bus? Maybe we can share the ride?

So I've been doing a bit of research. According to some posting on Livejournal, http://community.livejournal.com/wickedfaire/362134.html There is an MCM1 bus that does go from Willowbrook Mall to a spot very close to the Marriott. According to Mapquest, there does not appear to be a "Ridgewood" but rather two "Ridgedale Ave's" that intersect with Rt 10, but boith appear to be far away. I will continue to dig.

OK, after thorough searching on NJ Transit, Mapquest, and Google Maps, I've got it figured out now. Here's the routes that will take the least total travel time and cost (All will require walking between 7/10 and 8/10 of a mile):

Train and bus:
NJT from Penn Station to Morris Plains, leaves 11 minutes past the hour, arrives 77 minutes later. You are then 2 miles from the site.
MCM10 NJT bus from Morris Plains station to intersection of Rt. 22 and rt. 10, leaves 50 minutes past the hour (22 minutes after the train arrives), arrives 5 minutes later.
Walk 8/10 of a mile.
Getting the 9:11 AM train and the 10:50 AM bus will then get you 8/10 of a mile from the site by about 11 AM.

Cost: Train $11.25 + bus $1.35 = $12.60

Bus and bus:
The 194, 195, 197, and 198 NJT bus from Penn Station to Wayne (Willowbrook Shopper's Stop), leaving two or three times an hour (on the hour, 10 past, and 30 past, starting at 9:00 AM), arrives 30 minutes later
The MCM1 NJT bus to Hanover Township (Cedar Knolls) at Ridgedale Ave & Malapardis Rd, leaving 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM, and 12:45 PM, 1:45 PM, 3:15 PM. 4:10 PM, and 5:50 PM, arrives 59 minutes later. You are then 7/10 of a mile from the site.
The 9:30 AM bus and then the 10:15 bus will get you 7/10 of a mile from the site just past 11 AM

Cost: $6 + $3.20 = $9.20

I'm going to get the either the 10:11 AM train to Morris Plains or the 10:30 bus to Wayne. If anyone wants to join me, please reply and let me know.
