Henchman Championships

I'd really like to have a "Henchman Championships" event in the Evil Overlords room, and publicize it a little bit ahead of time on the TNE main page if possible, so extra-zealous contestants can prepare outrageous things. I've been passing the idea around to a lot of people at geeky and gothy conventions such as bigapplecon and there's incredible enthusiasm for participating in it. It would be sort of set like a Miss America contest/ American Idol/Talent show, with categories such as Grunting, Handling of Laser-headed Sharks (we could use a cardboard cutout with a marker-drawn shark + laser), Taunting, Style, Special Henchman Talent, Walking/Galumphing/Igor-ing, and Battle-to-the-death-with-[insert whatever is weird and lying around]. I imagine we might want things like a microphone for an announcer and shared with a panel of wise-cracking judges, plus maybe a speaker system if the Henchman contestants want to do karaoke as their super power, and also so we can play the Jaws theme for the Laser-headed shark section. Other than that, I think the creativity of contestants might take care of the rest.. In between categories of the competition, an announcer could give a brief spiel about SPARC and point at a box labeled Donations, placed prominently in front of the area where the Championships are going on (perhaps we could temporarily clear a space for them?)



I emailed this to Pretty Kitty a little while ago but thought I'd re-post here.. Mostly I'm excited because of all the positive reactions I get for Henchman Championships..

This is something that I think is a great idea. Perhaps doing something along the lines like another mentioned (somewhere around here) about "initiation" for people of other tribes or no tribe at all that wish to join. Perhaps make them compete for it? Just figured could be an added little fun segment of the larger competition. Or I could just be babbling randomly.

I do think this is an awesome idea. : )

After all, very good evil overlord has a henchman to do his bidding. So why not have a henchmen recruitment network in your room? (And have them "try out" or "audition" to be your henchmen by completing all sorts of little tasks).
